The Law & Public Safety II class participated in an educational field trip to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Lake Patrol Division. This specialized division is responsible for law enforcement operations across all bodies of water within Maricopa County. The area our students explored centered on the Salt River near Saguaro Lake, where they gained firsthand insight into multiple public-safety disciplines within MCSO.

Students heard from several guest speakers representing key units:

• MCSO Dive Team:
Students learned about the mission and responsibilities of the Diving Squad, whose duties include recovering evidence, vehicles, and human remains from underwater environments. Deputies demonstrated their specialized equipment, including scuba systems, underwater search technology, and an unmanned water-borne drone used for deep-water reconnaissance/retrieval.

• Lake Patrol Emergency Medical Personnel:
Deputies assigned to Lake Patrol are certified EMTs or paramedics due to the remote nature of their work. Since traditional Emergency Medical Services are not always immediately accessible in these environments, these deputies play a critical role in performing lifesaving interventions for the public.

• Mounted Unit:
Students met members of the Mounted Unit, interacted with the horses, and learned about the training and daily care required for law-enforcement animals. They brushed the horses, had an opportunity to mount them, observed arrest and control techniques utilized from horseback, and spoke with the unit veterinarian responsible for the health and readiness of the animals.

• Search and Rescue / Swift Water Rescue:
The class also received instruction from deputies assigned to Search and Rescue. Students were briefed on water-safety protocols and witnessed demonstrations of swift-water rescue techniques, including how deputies respond to rapidly changing and hazardous conditions along the river.

This field trip provided students with a valuable, real-world perspective on specialty law-enforcement operations, emergency response, and the diverse skill sets required to protect the public in unique and often challenging environments.

Our Carpentry students had an incredible opportunity to tour RSI (The Refrigeration School)!

Students met with the Director of High School Recruiting, who shared an overview of the various courses and industry-recognized certifications available at RSI.

Next, we explored the welding facility, where students learned about oxy-fuel cutting and heard directly from one of RSI’s welding instructors.

Back in the meeting room, our group met with HVAC and Electrical instructors who introduced their programs. Students then toured the mock house and commercial building used for hands-on wiring training, followed by visits to the electrical classrooms for demonstrations of the equipment and tools used in the field.

We wrapped up the day with information on funding and housing options for future RSI students.

A huge thank-you to RSI for giving our students such an informative and inspiring experience.

🐾 Exploring Careers in Law & Public Safety! 🐾

Last week, our Law & Public Safety students had a special visit from Mac, an Electronic Detection Dog who plays a vital role in law enforcement. 🐶💼

Mac helps locate child abuse materials and also serves as an emotional support dog for child victims — an incredible example of how technology and compassion come together in public safety careers.

This hands-on experience gave our students valuable insight into the many career paths within Law Enforcement and the impact they can have in protecting and supporting their communities. 💙👮‍♀️
